Lockdown extended

It has been over six weeks since Scotland went into lockdown and with the days all merging into one the words ‘Groundhog Day’ are resonating with most of us. The latest message from the Scottish Government, made earlier today, indicates a continuation of the current lockdown, however, we have started building and preparing plans to get back to the water and we are linking with sportscotland, the Scottish Government, Leisure trusts and our home nation colleagues in developing these.

Social distancing measures look likely to be in place for some time and it will take time to work through the stages of being able to get back to the water. I don’t think it will come as any great surprise that full training and competition as we know it may be some way off yet.  And while the weather continues to play a very positive role for outdoor exercise during lockdown, Open Water swimming is not one of the government’s suggested forms of outside activity and we urge all our members to note this. This will not only ensure social distancing and deter mass gatherings in open water areas, but will also protect our emergency services and other members of the public.

We are as keen as anyone for our sports to return, however, any plans and decisions made will be made in the best interests of the health and safety of our members, and will be based on the advice issued by the Scottish Government and NHS Scotland. We will keep our membership updated when more is known.

Stay connected with us and please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns around aquatics in Scotland in the coming weeks and months. Staff contacts can be found HERE.

Thank you.
