Racing considerations

The Scottish Swimming Staged Return to Swimming Competition identifies four progressive stages aimed at guiding the sport back to a form of competition normality.  We know that some of you are not currently training but when you can, and when you are ready, swimming competition that sits in the “Build” stage can take place.

Club committees and coaches that are working together now to deliver suitable racing opportunities for their swimmers, or are planning them for later this year, must comply with the Scottish Swimming Club Training Back to the Water COVID-19 Guidance.  Information about how to manage racing, record times and use equipment safely is contained in this new document “Racing Considerations”.

Planning for the later stages of the “return to competition” is also taking place and the Scottish Swimming National Swimming Committee are now in a position to advise the following dates for next year -

  • Scottish National Age Group Swimming Championships 31 March to 4 April
  • Scottish Open Swimming Championships 24 June to 27 June
  • Scottish Summer Swimming Championships 16 to 18 July

With the uncertainty as to the conditions that will prevail in relation to COVID-19, especially for the Scottish National Age Group Swimming Championships, the qualification processes, meet formats and venues, have not yet been decided.

Linked to the longer term approach, the surveys about the future of calendar and competition planning that were issued by the Competition Review Group have now closed.  The responses are now being analysed and will be used to help inform decisions about future meets and events in Scotland.  For this reason dates for National Championships in the 2021/2022 season are not being published at this time.
