National Club Poolside Helper course returns

Scottish Swimming is running another National Club Poolside Helper course, which we hope will help clubs with member retention and reduce the workload normally associated with this course.

The course is part of our Young Volunteer Programme and has been designed to support young members within the club to reach their full potential by providing you with the following knowledge and skills to assist at club training sessions:

From attending the Poolside Helper Course, you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate to the coach you are able to assist and you know how to appropriately use equipment required. This is inclusive of the set up, safe use and put away and storage arrangements, and includes both personal and general equipment
  • Demonstrate to the coach you have a knowledge and understanding of the importance of Health & Safety in the aquatic environment. This includes risk identification and management, and awareness of risk at the pool(s) you will be helping at
  • Demonstrate to the coach you are able to share your knowledge, demonstrate good behaviour and establish expectations of the group.   This should include understanding your role as a helper, how to effectively communicate with participants and have a basic understanding of rules, skills and techniques of swimming

The Poolside Helper Course will be completed in two parts (virtually and poolside). The virtual sessions will each last two hours and be done through Zoom over three consecutive weeks. Attendance at all three dates is mandatory, please see the dates below:

  • 5th June, 10:00 – 12:-00
  • 12th June, 10:00 – 12:-00
  • 19th June, 10:00 – 12:-00

Booking deadline: 2nd June

The second part, (poolside content), will be completed at your home club with support from your club’s Poolside Helper Educator(s). Credentials will only be awarded to participants who have completed all elements of the workshop and who upload a form to their Azolve membership with confirmation from their club that the practical and mentoring sessions have been covered (Scottish Swimming to provide form).

In order to sign-up for the Poolside Helper course, your club must have a qualified educator that is willing to sign off the practical element of the course; you can confirm this with your club committee/educators. A list of clubs with educators can be found HERE

The booking link can be found HERE.

If you have a passion for coaching and a desire to help others in your club progress, this is a great opportunity to get involved.
