Morrison and Quin through to breaststroke final

Conner Morrison and Scott Quin finally got their competition underway in the heats of the SB14 100m breaststroke on day 5 of the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

Morrison, who is coached by Gregor McMillan at the University of Aberdeen, swam in the first of the two heats and finished in a time of 1:08.01. Quin, who is coached by Matt Trodden at Edinburgh University finished in 1:06.20 in the second of the heats.

Both commented on their performance after the race:

Conner Morrison: “I’m a little bit disappointed and I expected a bit faster from myself, but it’s a 1:08 and I can’t complain about that.

“For Tokyo 2020 I’m not here looking for medals, I’m looking to get into finals and that’s more important to me at this stage.”

Scott Quin: “I’m happy with that, it’s a morning swim to try to blow the cobwebs out the way, but happy with the process I’ve worked on and happy to get the swim out the way this morning.

“It’s been tough for the last two weeks, but the sport is there for me and I’m keeping in contact with my team back at home, the pieces of my jigsaw who are my coach Matt (Matt Trodden), my S&C coach Shanksy (Neil Shanks) who I’ve known for a long time, and my physio Tracey who has been keeping me in check and keeping me calm as well.

“It’s been a rough two weeks but let’s just see what I can do in the final.”

The SB14 100m breaststroke final is scheduled to take place at 1721/0921 on Sunday.
