Clegg looking for fast finale

Stephen Clegg will finish out GBR’s swimming competition later on tonight, in a hotly anticipated S12 100m butterfly final, on the last day of action from the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

Clegg, who is coached by Chris Jones at Edinburgh University, will have a centre lane for the final, following his strong heat, which he won in a time of 59.13. While he was comfortably through, Clegg, the World Record holder for the event, is looking for more from his final. He said,

“I was a little bit disappointed with the time to be honest with you. I think I maybe took it out a bit too controlled and kind of struggled to pick it up on the way back. There’s some stuff to improve on for tonight and I think I can make some adaptations for the final.

“My world record split was 26 high but I’ve been working on building in through that first 50 to be in the 26 low, 25 high range; I was a bit off and I think I just struggled to pick it back up. I will look at all the details around my race and see where I held back a little too much. I’m still very confident that I can come back and make a big drop in that final tonight.”
