Merry Christmas from Scottish Swimming

2021 has been another different year and one that has not been without the continued challenges of Covid, yet collectively we have moved on a fair distance from last year.

One of the more notable milestones was the return of our sport, and our Festival of Swimming, a first with three events all on the same weekend, bringing back some racing fun for many swimmers and volunteers. Since then there have many other events from district meets to masters, the YVP activity back up and running plus many memorable moments and performances across the Olympics and Paralympics and finally the calendar year ending with Waterpolo, Diving, Winter Short Course and the inaugural National League finals.

As ever a huge thanks to the army of volunteers who have done so much this year both in supporting the many events and within day to day club activity. The valued role played by the many volunteers in clubs across our sport has been highlighted well this year by the examples of innovation and dedication shared during the club of the year nominations – the fun activities, sharing of advice and ideas as the sport returned has been something to see and highlights how fantastic aquatics can be….and of course, congratulations to all our award winners this year across our sport.

Unfortunately the Omicron variant continues to spread rapidly and we will confirm any changes to our most recent guidance document update, pending confirmation of any additional restrictions by the Scottish Government. Despite this, we do have dates in the diary for early next year, with the World Para Series meet in Aberdeen in February and the Edinburgh International in March - let’s look forward to these and more activity next year across our sport.

Plese note that Scottish Swimming will close for Christmas from 4pm on 24th December and will reopen at 8.30am on 5th January.

Thank you for your continued support and on behalf of Board, Council and everyone at Scottish Swimming, may I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

All the very best

Euan Lowe
