A sport for all, a sport for life

As part of our work towards the Equality Standard for Sport’s advanced standard, Scottish Swimming is delighted to share its equality video showcasing swimming as a sport for all, a sport for life.

Scottish Swimming Equality Film

Scottish Swimming is fully committed to the principles of Equality and equal opportunities and is responsible for ensuring that no job applicant, employee or member receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of the nine protected characteristics (age, ability, sex, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, gender reassignment, marriage & civil partnership and pregnancy & maternity).

In addition Scottish Swimming will endeavour to provide open access to all those who wish to participate in swimming within the competitive environment through its organisation of affiliated clubs and it will work closely with key partners and local authorities to help influence other organisations do the same within different aspects of the sport.

Speaking about the video, Chief Executive Forbes Dunlop said,

“We strongly believe that swimming can be enjoyed by and provide opportunities for everyone. The video showcases real members, real people telling their own stories.

“The video also shows that there is still work to be done in some areas and we will continue to engage with the relevant organisations and individuals to develop policies to support their participation in our sport.”

The Equality Standard is a framework that organisations can use to help take steps towards achieving Equality, making sure all policies, procedures and decisions are fair.  In working towards the advanced standard we also want to identify under-privileged or under-represented groups within the community and to attempt to eliminate the barriers that may be affecting their ability to take part in swimming.
